The clock is ticking down on Pennsylvania smokers who want to light up in bars, restaurants and other public places.

The state Legislature approved a statewide smoking ban in June. It goes into effect in less than two weeks, 90 days after Gov. Ed Rendell signed it.

The ban applies to most private businesses and says public spaces also must be smoke-free. It also includes complicated exemptions that some say will create headaches for business owners.

The bills bans cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking in restaurants, office buildings, schools, sports arenas, theaters and bus and train stations.

It allows smoking in some bars and taverns, portions of casino floors, private clubs and elsewhere.

ABC 27 Talkback: Pa. Smoking Ban Takes Effect in Less than 2 Weeks

When the government wants to build a new building, they raise the cigarette taxes to help fund the building that I won't be able to smoke in. I am getting tired of hereing stories like the women who was suing her neighbor because she could smell his cigarette smoke. Or how non smokers can't wait to get home and wash their close because it smells like smoke from the event they were at. Thats tough. If the pink lungs don't want to go into an establishment that allows smoking, Go someplace else. If  my neighbor, don't like the smell of my smoke, then move.

I've been smoking for 35 years, and after several attempts to quit, keep going back. Its bad enough having the pressures from the medical side, but smokers don't need bad breath politicians turning up the heet, especially when it appears its just for political gain. I pay my taxes and smokers have rights too. Plus I respect the presence of others when I smoke. So leave the smokers alone and get off of our backs, and address more important issues.
