Dauphin County, Pa. - Dauphin County teenager Tracy Kroh vanished exactly 20 years ago. Though the disappearance remains unresolved, State Police maintain it remains an open case. Late last year, they said they had a suspect. So far, though, the case remains an "endangered person" investigation and not a criminal investigation.
Kroh, 17, of Halifax, disappeared on August 5th, 1989. Police found her car on the square in Millersburg with no sign of the teen. Four years later, after flooding, searchers found Kroh's driver's license and other belongings along the Wiconisco Creek near Elizabethville.
In late 2008, investigators erected a billboard on Route 225 in Halifax with a photo of Kroh in the 80's and a rendering of what she could look like now. That billboard has sparked leads. Authorities assure us they are pursuing those leads.
"As time goes on, it does make it more difficult to solve a case. However, 20 years in the grand scheme of things may lead us to just one tip, one piece of evidence, to solve this case," said Trooper Tom Pinkerton. "The investigation has always been on going and it will continue to do so. The more leads we get, the better the outcome may be as far as the solvability of this case."
