A Cumberland County judge on Tuesday ordered Wendell Ritchie to serve one to two years in county prison for his role in a fatal hit and run last year.
During the sentencing, Ritchie apologized to the victim's family and asked for their forgiveness.
Ritchie hit and killed Earl Swauger, 69, as he crossed Main Street in Mechanicsburg in October 2007. Police say Ritchie, of Lower Paxton Township, left the scene, did not give aid to the victim, and told people he had struck a deer.
Swauger's family had hoped the judge would order Ritchie to serve his time in a state prison. The judge did not grant that request, citing Ritchie's age and lack of a prior record.
After court, Swauger's niece, Holly Bryson, said she is unlikely to forgive. "He just doesn't seem to have any remorse at all," she said. "I just can't forgive him."
