Rendell Calls for New Law after 80 Dogs Shot

A Pennsylvania dog breeders' group says the state's effort to crack down on the abuse and neglect of dogs is unfairly targeting Lancaster County commercial kennels.

The Professional Dog Breeders Advisory Council filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday in Philadelphia against the state Agriculture (web|news) Department and top dog law enforcement officials.

Bob Yarnall of the American Canine Association says overzealous enforcement has forced legitimate businesses to close.

Yarnall also says state statistics show Lancaster County kennels were more likely to be inspected and received more citations and warnings last year than any others in the state.

Spokesmen for the Agriculture Department and Gov. Ed Rendell aren't commenting on the lawsuit.

seriously, breeding dogs should not be a business, dogs should only be breed by people passionate about the breed, for the betterment of the breed, not by some Amish or Mennonite farmer who wants to get rich off of the publics ingnorance, while his breeder dogs are locked in kennels their entire life, until they don't produce anymore and he gives them the shovel, thats right, the shovel. Remember the Amish don't shoot their dogs, they give them the shovel. ADOPT YOUR NEXT DOG STOP THE CHURNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
