The City of Harrisburg has expanded its list of materials and supplies being sought for victims of Hurricane Gustav, according to Mayor Stephen Reed.
The list was expanded after city officials in Baton Rogue, Louisiana reported their needs are becoming more dire, Reed said.
The biggest need is for tarps to cover roofs damaged by the storm.
Harrisburg is also collecting portable generators, sheets, towels, blankets, baby supplies, hand sanitizers, AM radios, flashlights, batteries, portable stoves, cots, pillows, washing supplies, toothpaste and toothbrushes, deodorant, disposable medical wear and supplies, basic medical supplies, mosquito repellent, suntan block, adult diapers, portable washing and dryer systems, portable shower units, underwear and socks.
Items can be brought to City Fire Station No. 1 at 1820 N. 6th Street from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Checks or cash donated will be used to purchasing the needed items. Checks should be made payable to 'City of Harrisburg - Hurricane Relief Fund'.
Donations will be collected until Tuesday night but may be extended if further needed, Reed said.
Anyone wanting further information should call 255-3131.
