Indoor public smoking is all but banned in Pennsylvania tonight. There are exceptions, including bars that don't serve much food. But what about those grey areas?
Smokers at Harrisburg International Airport used to have a space of their own - four lounges, with ventilation systems, that sucked their secondhand smoke outside.
Now those rooms are locked up and posted with signs explaining why. No smoking in HIA's two bars, either - where smoke-eaters on the ceiling cleared the air.
"We meet the intent of the law," said HIA Spokesman Scott Miller. "However, we don't meet the letter of the law. Big difference there."
That's why the airport has applied for an exemption. Officials believe HIA already did a good job protecting the public.
Pennsylvania's casinos did get an exemption - smoking is permitted on 25 percent of the gaming floor. At Hollywood Casino in Grantville, many gamblers welcomed the change.
Smoking areas are clearly marked, and the casino made sure they included a mix of machines. One cigar smoker thinks that's great, but he still feels limited by the new law.
"Personally, I think the whole place should be smoking," he said. "If you want to smoke, smoke. If you don't smoke, and it bothers you that much? Don't come."
