Congressmen Tim Holden and Todd Platts are on opposite sides of the aisle, but both were thinking pretty much the same thing when they voted down the $700 billion bailout package on Monday.
Both acknowledged that Congress needs to do something - but not this.
Republican Platts of York County said rank and file members wanted other plans considered that he felt could have done the job without putting taxpayers at risk.
"House and Senate leadership and administration officials, they heard us advocating other proposals," he said. "But they never sincerely deliberated and considered doing other proposals."
Democrat Holden from Schuylkill County said he didn't want to reward the bad moves of those on Wall Street.
"We need to help out the community bankers who are paying the price," he said. "Because they have done what we've asked them to do ... investing in Freddie and Fannie. That's the lifeline in central PA and in my Congressional district."
Platts and Holden said they plan to get back to work on Thursday. Congress is taking two days off for the Jewish holidays.
