Harrisburg, Pa. - The state Department of Agriculture
(web | news) 's Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement says it has revoked the license of a Lancaster County dog kennel.
CC Pets LLC in Peach Bottom, which also conducted business as Puppy Love Kennels, was found to be in violation of a 2005 court agreement, according to a department news release.
A Commonwealth Court judge in April ordered the kennel to shut down for six months and pay $166,000 in fines when owner Joyce Stoltzfus was found in contempt of the agreement which, in part, prohibited her from placing classified ads that did not specifically mention the name of her business.
Authorities said Stoltzfus placed more than 800 ads with newspapers in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Allentown and Carlisle that failed to include the name of the kennel.
The agreement stemmed from a lawsuit over the sale of sick and defected dogs the state filed on behalf of 171 consumers who bought dogs from the kennel.
Jessie Smith, the agriculture department’s special deputy secretary for dog law enforcement, said Pennsylvania 's new dog law allows the bureau to revoke the license of a kennel that has been shut down.
