Middletown, Pa. - A Middletown man has been held for trial on charges stemming from the death of his infant son.
Brandon Murray, 27, waived his preliminary hearing on Thursday. He is charged with criminal homicide and related crimes in the September 27 death of five-week-old David Murray.
Authorities say the child's mother found the child unresponsive and took him to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy later determined the child died of suffocation. Police say Murray told them he fell asleep on top of the baby, but investigators said the infant also had a fractured skull, two broken leg bones, a broken finger and wrist, and a broken rib bone.
Police said Murray admitted to assaulting the child just days before his death. According to court documents, Murray told detectives he dropped David and shook him to get him to stop crying and, in the process, hit the baby's head twice on a kitchen counter.
Murray remains in Dauphin County Prison in leiu of $750,000 bail.
