State College, Pa. (AP) - Wintry weather has come a little early to Pennsylvania.
Officials at the National Weather Service
(web | news) in State College say as much as two inches has fallen in parts of northern Pennsylvania by mid-afternoon Thursday.
Meteorologist Aaron Tyburski says spotters are reporting two inches in Coudersport in Potter County and 1½ inches in Haneyville. About an inch has been recorded in the Pocono Mountains.
A little more accumulation is possible in the upper elevations as the snowfall tapers off in the evening.
The snowfall hasn't been heavy in State College, but it has been record-setting. Tyburski says State College has recorded three-tenths of an inch of snow, setting a record for earliest recorded snowfall there.
The previous earliest snow in State College was one-tenth of an inch on Oct. 18, 1901.
