State College, Pa. (AP) - An autumn stormed has dumped as much as six inches of snow in parts of northern Pennsylvania.
The National Weather Service
(web | news) says between five and six inches fell in State College, which set a record for earliest snowfall on record. The previous earliest snow there was one-tenth of an inch on Oct. 18, 1901.
Other northern Pennsylvania towns reported similar figures. Wellsboro, Tioga County had 5.9 inches and Coudersport in Potter County recorded 5½ inches.
In the Pocono Mountains, higher elevations were hardest hit. Pocono Summit in Monroe County tallied 6.1 inches while Pocono Peak Lake in Wayne County had 4.2 inches.
Other areas received between 1 and 2 inches with southern parts of the state getting rain.
Forecasters say a weekend storm system could bring more snow to the regions already affected.
