York, Pa. - Sen. Bob Casey says he is "frustrated and disappointed" with Harley-Davidson's plans to outsource part of its operations at the York plant.
The company told employees Wednesday that if it decides to keep the plant in Springettsbury Township, it plans to outsource "noncore" job functions to suppliers; including some subassembly, chrome-plating and stamping of parts. Assembly, metal fabrication and painting would remain at the plant, company officials said.
"I would hope that in the continual efforts by Harley-Davidson, working with the union and working with others as well, I would hope they would keep their core operations in York County," Casey told abc27 News.
Union officials said about 400 jobs could be lost under the plan.
Company spokesperson Pat Sweeney says the company plans to decide in December whether to keep the York plant open or move it to Shelbyville, Ind., Shelbyville, Ky., or Murfreesboro, Tenn.
