Whether it's over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house or just up I-81, getting there by car costs more this year. "It won't effect our plans," says motorist Fred Dellinger of York. "We're going to Lewistown with the family so we're going to keep doing what we always do."
To stretch Dellinger's seventy-five dollar tank of gas, the best thing he can do is slow down.
If you don't believe that slowing down can save you gas, we did a test with the fuel mileage meter on a new Toyota Highlander. When we averaged 65 to 75 miles per hour, the mileage was about 18.9 miles per gallon according to the meter.
We we slowed down to 55 miles per hour, gas mileage on the Toyota jumped all the way to 25 miles per gallon.

Some people find it tough to slow down.
"I usually drive ten percent over the speed limit and let the cruise control sit," says Gretchen McCullough of Lewistown.
If the prices keep climbing we all may have to slow down, whether we want to or not.
"It's expensive," says McCullough. "I have to keep driving so I have to keep shelling it out."
