West Manchester Township, Pa. - Ten children and their bus driver sustained minor injuries this morning as the result of a crash with a pick-up truck in York County, according to police.

West Manchester Township police said the bus was struck from behind as it was stopping to pick up students on Carlisle Road.

The bus driver had activated the yellow flashing lights and was about to activated the red flashing lights when the crash occurred, police said.

The driver of the pick-up truck, 69-year-old Homer Salzman, of York, reported he was blinded by the sun and did not see the bus stopping in front of him.

Police said Salzman was going about 25 miles per hour, ten miles per hour under the posted speed limit. He will be cited for traveling too fast for road condition, police said.

Thirty-four children between the ages of 14 and 18 were on their way to the York County School of Technology. The injured students and their driver were taking by ambulances to York Hospital.

Two children waiting to board the bus were not injured.

ABC 27 Talkback: 11 Injured in School Bus Crash
Huh?
It is always easier to blame the bus/busdriver, because of carrying the kids.  I wonder how many teachers would take responsibility for 40-60 kids at a time, in a controlled setting, while having to keep your mind on the road, other drivers, bus condition, and keeping the kids in line too.
