"Her smile, every time she would smile, there was this white spot on her tooth and I would just stare at it and her laugh, that's what I do miss," Darren said.
Although everyday is a struggle, Darren says the hole in his heart gets smaller everyday. He and his brother also learned how to cope with their mother's death by going to the Caring Place in Lemoyne. The Caring Place offers free counseling services to grieving children.
One in 20 children will lose a parent before they turn 18. On this Children's Grief Awareness Day, Darren Clouser of Shermans Dale, Perry County wanted to share his story.
Darren and his brother Brandon were camping more than a year ago when they found out their mother had been killed in a car accident. Thirty-six-year-old Lynette Clouser was killed in August 2007.
The boys were devastated by the news.
"She was always there for us," said Darren. "She would get us basically anything that we needed. She would push herself to do whatever she needed to do," Darren said.
