"I loved him very much, I didn't like him," she said.
But she admits, she never thought he would try to hurt her.
Police say Saturday 46-year-old Marc Orner attacked his mother inside her Wormleysburg home. They say he tried to smother her with a blanket, and threw her two small dogs into a wall and television.
Elaine told abc27 she thought he was trying to take her life.
"He pushed me down and had me down for quite a while," she said. "My son's a big man."
Elaine says Marc appeared to be drunk, and said he was upset he did not receive more inheritance money after his father's death.
Marc Orner has been charged with attempted homicide. District Attorney Dave Freed says the charge is appropriate.
"It's scary, and as you know in real life it's not that often that people are attacked within the sanctity of their own homes," Freed said. "This was a horrible, scary, frightening attack."
Orner was arrested and placed in the Cumberland County Prison on $100,000 bail. Elaine says she hopes he stays there.
"Yes, for a long, long time," she said. "I can finally sleep in peace."
