About five years ago, Albright was hit head-on by a drunk driver. Doctors had to put a metal plate in his neck to replace two broken disks. It was difficult for Albright to keep up with the restaurant due to the injury.
"I had to come into work the next day," Albright said. "I didn't have anyone to call."
So when Albright found out that those with the York City Police Department were selling water bottles to raise money for the city's DUI awareness programs he immediately inquired. He bought several cases.
"It was a very traumatic experience for me going through the accident," Albright said. "If I can prevent anyone else from having to go through that, I certainly will be a part of it."
More than 30 restaurants and bars in York have purchased the bottles of water. The bottles have a label on them which reads, "Just One - One Call. One Ride. One Life." On the bottom of the label are numbers for several local cab companies. A York College student designed the label.
"Let's raise awareness with people," said Officer Ritchie Blymier of the police department about the campaign. "Let's not be drinking and driving. Let's drive sober. Let's be safe."
Blymier said they've sold about 200 cases of the bottles, which should net about $600 to $800. He said some of the money helped send several students from York Catholic High School and William Penn High School to a Students Against Drunk Driving or SADD Conference in Lancaster Wednesday. The students now want to start SADD chapters at their schools.
Blymier said the money will also be used to help train city officers about how to recognize DUI drivers.
