Waynesboro, Pa. - This Thanksgiving, a retired Army officer is supporting veterans in a unique way: He created a clothing line to raise money for those who served the red, white and blue.
Retired Army officer Jeff Rock says he'd always wanted to own his own business, so five years ago when he decided on a career change, he remembered an old business school trick.
“You really want to get into three kinds of business - either food, clothing, shelter,” he said. “People always need a place to stay, something to eat and they always need something to wear."
So he started a clothing line called “New Army.”
“I wanted to create an apparel product and a brand that made people feel good about themselves,” he said.
The line, which officially launched on Veterans Day, is geared toward a particular group close to Rock’s heart.
“We want to send 10 percent of after-tax profits to disabled American veterans,” he said.
After spending the last three years as a civilian contractor in Iraq (

“We want to have an impact on the transition of these young men and women back into society and this is a great way to start," he said.
The pieces retail from about $20 to $60 and nearly all are made from earth-friendly materials.
“We have a women's fleece hoodie that's made of 90 percent recycled plastic bottles,” said Rock. “We hope to make it an example for another business - not just to go out and make money in the marketplace, but to give back."
