York, Pa. - York County Commissioners said Wednesday that they are alarmed by the number of citations that have been issued to those seeking sex in county parks, despite undercover efforts to stop the activity.
Commissioners said for the past several months, the County of York Parks Department has assigned undercover male rangers to patrol parking lots, trails, and other common areas of county parks in Springettsbury and York townships. The undercover rangers are routinely approached by adult males for sexual purposes.
Commissioners said to date, a total of 81 summary offense citations have been issued, resulting in 58 guilty pleas and findings of guilt. The remaining cases are pending before a district judge. None of the citations have been issued to repeat offenders.
Undercover rangers will now be assigned throughout all of the county parks, commissioners said. Offenders face fines of up to $600.
