Carlisle, Pa. - A Cumberland County man has been found guilty of arranging a large drug deal from prison.
Elwood C. Williard, 74, of South Middletown Township, was convicted by a jury of charges of delivery of heroin, conspiracy, and criminal use of communications facility. He faces a minimum sentence of five years imprisonment when he is sentenced on December 8.
Williard was found guilty last month on charges of possession of heroin with intent to deliver, stemming from a man's overdose death in December 2008. Prosecutors said the man bought the heroin at Williard's home near Mt. Holly Springs.
A month after he was remanded to Cumberland County Prison, authorities say Williard arranged a heroin deal with an undercover police officer.
Police said they recorded a prison phone call in which Williard directed a companion to set up the deal. The undercover officer said he followed the companion's instructions and met with two people who sold him 10 bricks of heroin.
