Harrisburg, Pa. - Leading lawmakers met with Gov. Ed Rendell on Wednesday to discuss table games legislation.
A spokesman said they're getting closer to an agreement. The governor wants a bill ready by next week when House members return from recess.
State Auditor General Jack Wagner is pushing for the proposal to include reimbursement for audits his department conducts of the gaming industry. Wagner says those audits cost taxpayers about $350,000 a year. He wants casino owners to pay for them.
"It is a new responsibility to the Department of Auditor General," Wagner told reporters. "But a responsibility that should not be paid for by the taxpayers. There are other audits that we do that we are reimbursed for."
Wagner said one of the three bills now under consideration in the Legislature includes the reimbursement proposal.
