Lemoyne, Pa. - Sgt. Michael Hope always thought he would end his career in Camp Hill. He's been with the Camp Hill Police Department for about 20 years.
But when he learned of the opportunity to become chief in a neighboring department, he knew he had to go for it. He said becoming a chief has always been his goal.
Wednesday he achieved that goal. Come December 4th he will be the head of the West Shore Regional Police Department.
Hope is married and has two children. He grew up in Cumberland County and graduated from Cumberland Valley High School. He is an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams.
He said one of his first goals as chief will be to create a website, where residents can learn about what's going on in their community. He said it's important that police communicate with the people they protect and serve.
"Information on crimes that have occurred, safety tips, crime prevention tips, pictures of the officers, so everyone can know their police department," Hope said.
Hope said the decision to leave Camp Hill was "difficult." He will replace Chief Howard Dougherty who retired from the West Shore department months ago.
