Harrisburg, Pa. - Leaders of the Pennsylvania Senate have introduced a set of rules designed to make clear to employees what conduct is permissible and what is not.
The rules prohibit employees from conducting any campaign activity on Senate work time, in a Senate office, or with Senate resources. In addition, no Senate employee may be required to perform campaign activities, make campaign contributions, or perform any other non-work related task.
The rules were introduced by Senate president Joe Scarnati, Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, and Democratic Leader Robert Mellow. Violations could result in termination.
Attorney General Tom Corbett has been investigating whether state resources and workers were used on campaigns and for other improper purposes and whether those workers were rewarded with bonuses. Charges have been filed against two former state lawmakers and 10 others associated with the House Democratic caucus.
