Lebanon, Pa. - An elected official in Lebanon County is accused of taking inappropriate photographs of young girls at Hersheypark, according to police.
Derry Township police have charged Robert C. Rothermel, 67, of Lebanon, with disorderly conduct in connection with an incident on June 15. Police said they began an investigation after visitors reported Rothermel was taking pictures at the water attractions, and later found the inappropriate photos on the memory card of Rothermel's camera.
Rothermel was charged October 28, one week before he was reelected to the post of jury commissioner.
County commissioner Jo-Ellen Litz said she is shocked by the allegation. "I do know Mr. Rothermel personally. I've known him for decades, literally. He's been active in the community and he's always been solid, as far as I know. That's why the disbelief part of it. It's hard to believe," said Litz.
Police say it took months to go over the evidence, and that's why Rothermel wasn't charged sooner. His attorney did not return calls asking for a comment.
