Waynesboro, Pa. - A Franklin county man wanted on federal charges that he sold large amounts of marijuana may be camping out in the woods to avoid arrest, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
Authorities say Van Dorn Palmer III, 59, of Waynesboro, sold about 500 pounds of marijuana over a period of several years. He has been charged with manufacturing and distributing and may have known the charges were coming. He was last seen at his house on August 4 with a backpack and a tent, U.S. Marshals said.
Officials say Palmer may be camping in the Michaux State Forest or hiking the Appalachian Trail. Federal agents have been looking for him for the past few weeks.
Hunters and hikers over the next few weeks should be aware that Palmer might be out there. Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.
Authorities say Palmer has very strong anti-government views and has been known to tell people that the government is trying to kill them.
