Harrisburg, Pa. - The Dauphin County coroner has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Harrisburg on Thursday evening.
Chad Shirey, 35, of Hershey, was shot in the chest as he sat in his car at 5th and Radnor streets, near Steele Elementary School, according to Coroner Graham Hetrick. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hetrick said the fatal shot came through the driver's side window, struck Shirey in the shoulder and pierced both of his lungs and his aorta, the main artery to the heart.
Based on the wound, Hetrick said he believes that Shirey was talking to someone on the passenger side when someone else came up to the car and shot him.
Police have made no arrests. Mayor Stephen Reed said investigators believe Shirey was in the city to buy drugs.
Shirey's death is the 16th homicide in Harrisburg this year.
