Harrisburg, Pa. - The Dauphin County district attorney says two Harrisburg police detectives were justified in shooting a drug suspect who pointed a gun at one of them.
District Attorney Ed Marsico says the detectives had stopped to talk to 24-year-old Lawrence Brady, of Harrisburg, because they observed him dealing drugs near 14th and Vernon streets on Sept. 3. Offiicals say after the detectives found drugs on Brady, he pulled out a loaded gun and aimed it straight at the heart of one of the two detectives.
The detective's partner shot Brady once. The detective who was threatened then fired a second round. Brady was hospitalized for wounds that included a serious chest injury that required surgery.
"Their actions were certainly justified. The officers were acting in self defense," Marsico said. "Ironically, in this case, Mr. Brady has expressed remorse for his actions. He admitted to pulling the gun on the officers and asked to be able to apologize to the officers for his actions."
Brady currently is in jail awaiting trial.
