Lebanon, Pa. - A 16-year-old Lebanon girl has pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree murder stemming from the shooting death of a North Cornwall Township man.
Sasha Hernandez was immediately sentenced today to 39 to 79 years imprisonment. She will be 58 years old when she is eligible for parole.
Robert McAteer, senior deputy district attorney, called it a "sad day for everybody," but said Hernandez showed no emotion in court as she admitted to the July 31 murder of 20-year-old Steven Santiago in front of her home at 46 South 8th Street.
Hernandez additionally pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, riot, disorderly conduct, and several firearms violations. Police said the serial number had been removed from the weapon used to kill Santiago. Hernandez also has a juvenile record for delivery of a controlled substance.
According to court documents, Hernandez and her mother were involved in a fight involving several people about a half-hour before the shooting. Police have said the fight was the result of an ongoing dispute, but added that it was not gang-related.
Hernandez's mother, Rosa Lopez, pleaded guilty today to charges of riot, disorderly conduct, and corruption of a minor. She was sentenced to 10 months to two years imprisonment in the Lebanon County Jail.
