Hershey, Pa. - Police are asking for help from the public in identifying suspects in two series of thefts from vehicles that have occurred in Derry and South Londonderry townships, in Dauphin County.
The suspects were photographed by anti-theft cameras at stores in Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg, where credit cards stolen from several of the vehicles were used, according to Derry Township police.
During the first series of thefts, 31 unlocked cars were entered in in the Orchard Run development of Derry Township and the Townsend Drive area of Hummelstown Borough, police said.
In the second series of thefts, more than 25 unlocked cars were entered in the Briarcrest and Robin Road areas of Hershey and the Londonderry Village development in Campbelltown several nights later, police said.
Thieves, who sometimes refer to the crime as "car hopping," generally target cash and credit cards, GPS units, portable music players, cell phones, and any other property that is easily transportable.
Dauphin County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Anyone with information is asked to call Derry Township police at (717) 534-2202 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-262-3080.
