West Hanover Township, Pa. - Pamela Heinbaugh said she didn't think anything was unusual about an unfamiliar car in her mother's driveway Tuesday morning. Her teen-aged brother often invites friends over to the house, she said.
But when Pamela went into the home on Chestnut Avenue in West Hanover Township with her small son, she soon found out they were both in danger.
She said a man emerged in the hallway and pushed her against the wall. "The man said you need to close your eyes or I'm going to kill you and I kept staring at him," Pamela said. "He stuck his fingers between my eyes and simulated a gun in between my eyes with his hand."
During the ordeal, Pamela was on the phone with her husband, Chad. He's a soldier at Fort Indiantown Gap. "I hear her screaming and I just said I"m coming, I'm coming," Chad said. "I was trying to yell to him, if he could hear, I'm gonna get you, don't hurt her."
The man, who Pamela said pried her mother's door open, then took her cell phone and fled. She found the phone later that day smashed and discarded along Linglestown Road near Central Dauphin High School.
Chad, meanwhile, raced home not knowing if his wife was still in danger. A few of his co-workers also rushed to her aid.
"It was hard...I just felt helpless," Chad said. "I think being on the phone with her is probably one of the reasons it scared him... he knew somebody knew what was going on and wanted to get out of there."
Pamela said she did get a good look at the man and his car. She described him as a black male, about 25-years-old, 6'1" tall, clean shaven, well spoken, and well dressed. She said he was driving a silver Volkswagen, probably a Jetta. She noticed the front driver's side wheel cover was missing the VW logo.
Police said they're hopeful they can identify him before he hurts someone else. "The victim gave us a lot of information," said Lt. Gib Morrissey. "We're hoping somebody out there will reach out to us and positively identify this person."
Pamela hopes someone identifies him soon. "He didn't hurt either one of us and we were very lucky nothing was taken but I'll feel better, be able to sleep better when he's arrested," Pamela said.
"Please turn him in," Chad urged. "I'd just hate to see this guy do something like this and get away and do something like this to someone else. He deserves to be in jail."
